This is such a creative way to help fill in pieces of Toby's history. I feel like I can start seeing it all beginning to be strung together, but simultaneously have no idea what comes next. For someone who can usually predict a book in the first quarter of it, this is so refreshing.
Ooo you can usually predict a book in the first quarter?! That’s a secret super power!! I mean this mystery may have something to do with how it’s still kinda a a mystery to me OR I’m a genius, yeah, maybe that!
Katie! I've been loving seeing your daily entries whenever SS delivers them in my feed. (Which isn't consistent, and one of the reasons I haven't really warmed up to Notes either.)
So you can imagine how relieved I was to see this wrap up post where I could devour all the beautiful images, words, and soundtrack entries all at once. And with extra context and insights from you!
Congrats on making it halfway through Inktober! And thanks for the reminder that we need to “Love the work for the work itself, not the eyeballs and hearts.” 💙
Ah!! Michael, thank you!! 💙 Like I said above, this was definitely more satisfying than Notes, ha!! Coincidentally, this morning I read and remembered this nugget of wisdom: “According to neuroscientist Dr Andrew Huberman, we get our dopamine kicks from progressing towards a goal, not achieving it.” (Chris Meyer, St George in Retirement Syndrome: How to Know When to Quit?) A lovely moment of extra clarity on The Why! Prior to the internet, most of humanity toiled away in obscurity except for their little pocket of support in friends, family and colleagues (if that!) So thanks for being in my little bubble. It’s cozy here!
The egg (if it’s even an egg really) that got me in my feels was Toby’s monster being disregarded by dad in your King of Swords frame to showcased in the place of honor - the fridge, with mom in the Queen of Pentacles frame.
I’ve loved getting these daily on Notes but this round up, of having them all together flows so dang well.
These beautiful illustrations even before you add in all the extra goodies and narrative context!
Tim!!! Compliment City coming from you!! Thank ya!! Seriously, drawing is hard work tho 😅
It's true!

That quote is a keeper for sure!
Gah!! So excited to see the Spotify playlist!! 🔥🔥🔥
Music… such an essential component!

😭 You have such a keen eye!! I’m stoked you caught that! And thank you again, my friend! It was WAAAY more satisfying putting it all together here!
