I wouldn’t blame you if your response to my delivery today was like, “Oh yeah… this.” In our last episode, I mentioned that I was near the end of my side-hustle season. Officially true. So a more spacious room for Bonesick progress is available for rent.
In between that season’s end and my dance with heavy day-job-life, I snuck in a little bit of drawing. I truly wish I were further along, but this is where I landed over the last month. I’ll leave you with the Work In Progress sketch, followed by the scribblings-of-a-madman sneak peek of what’s to come. Next episode will undoubtedly be more sketchy, but hopefully not over a month away?
Let’s take a walk with Toby
“Good evening. It's Sunday, 4:53 in the A.M. and that means this is Perspectives.”
P.S. If you aren’t hanging with all the gothy art kids on the net these days, you might be unaware that Inktober is thoroughly underway.
Ink•to•ber
noun
The stressful layer that hovers atop October and asks humans to commit to a daily drawing habit. I say “stressful” because you either draw every day and feel anxious about how you stack up to the rest of the other participants, OR you do not draw everyday and FOMO all over yourself. I’ve been there. It’s exciting, but no picnic. No pain no gain, though. Every artist should try it once. It may just be your little slice of paradise.
Originally started by artist Jake Parker in 2009.

While I sh’ant be participating this year, I can set aside the FOMO and appreciate the dedication my fellow humans pour into the month.
And on that note, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention an artist who really kicked my ass into gear in 2022. D.J. Coffman of
is currently running a whole inspirational engine to not only get folks excited about drawing everyday, but to bring spotlight and support those who do (see: #propstober). The best thing about D.J.’s version of Inktober is that he’s a proponent of but a mere sketch-a-day. Nothing fancy — a scribble will do — especially if you don’t have much time to go full throttle like these folks. It’s only Wednesday, October 5th. Definitely not too late to jump into the madness, if it sounds like just the ass-kicking YOU need to start your next New Idea Obsession™.Until we meet again, enjoy the hell out of whatever you choose to throw yourself into this October! Next time I’ll have progress made on this WIP, I promise you that.
I finally saw this Substack notification! Thanks for the props and I'm glad all of our crazy doings have helped motivate you! Hope you're still drawing every damn day!
#Propstober to you E.L.! Props to your work here and elsewhere. Have an awesome month!
